Summary of 2019-2020 interprofessional activities
- September 2019: reviewed journal articles about the proposed association of opioid misuse/addiction/overdose as a result of opioids prescribed to family members
- October 2019: reviewed journal article assessing provider readiness to manage an opioid overdose with naloxone; also a video explaining how naloxone works
- November 2019: discussion about empathic communication, changing how we talk about substance use, and motivational interviewing
- December 2019: reviewed journal article about an interprofessional education workshop to develop health professional student opioid misuse knowledge, attitudes and skills
- January 2020: reviewed journal articles and topics from Fall 2019; identifying target demographic of patient newsletter
- February 2020: explored the process of creating, editing and publishing a newsletter; identified article topics and began writing drafts
- March 2020: reviewed journal articles about the impact of language and stigma on attitudes and treatment for people affected by opioid use disorder; edited draft articles for patient newsletter
- April 2020: identified the work of different health professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic; reviewed articles about the impact of shelter-in-place orders on opioid dependence, treatment access, isolation, mental health, etc.
- May 2020: simulated multidisciplinary team rounds and studied clinical cases of people affected by opioid use disorder
